EXPO 2020 DURING THE PANDEMIC

UAE won the bid to host Expo 2020, beating rivals Russia, Turkey & Brazil. The Expo was scheduled to draw over 25 million visitors from October 2020 to April 2021. However, due to the pandemic, it was postponed from October 2021 to March 2022.

To reduce the spread of COVID – 19, a Lockdown was issued from April 4th. Then the lockdown was ended on May 27th. Later, the Airports in Dubai welcomed tourists from July 7th, following over three months of restrictions on international travel to restrain the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, but the daily cases increased. When asked about the increasing number of cases of COVID -19, Helal Al Marri, director-general of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, compared the number of tourists who came to Dubai at the end of last year and said the emirate had about 560,000 visitors by this December– a third of the usual numbers. Besides the country has also operated out an advanced vaccination program, which has served almost 8.9 million vaccine doses in a population of about 10 million.

We expect an encounter of developed art, culture, geography, science, technology, innovation, and invention, during these years especially during the COVID – 19 pandemic on Expo 2020.
